parenting goal

I guess if I had to sum it up, the parenting goal in our family would be two fold. First and foremost our desire is to raise them as Bible thumpin, Holy rollin, God fearing Jesus freaks! Our true desire is for our children to share the light of Jesus Christ with those around them. We strive to give them grace and in turn our hope is that they will give the same grace to those arond them.

Secondly, we want them to have the opportunity to get involved in sports, music, dance, drama, church, boy scouts, or whatever activities they want to try without them ever feeling as if they cannot participate in a certain activity because they come from a big family. We always budget our time and money in a way that allows them to each be involved in 2 activities at any given time. We never want our children to grow up to say "I didn't get to do abcde because my parents had too many kids". So, if there is something they want to do (especially if it involves physical activity) and it doesn't put a huge strain on our time or budget, them we work hard to make it happen. Often this means my husband and I both coach a team at the same time so that we can schedule practices around our families schedule. We also make sure the family eats dinner together at least 5 nights a week, even if it means eating sandwhiches and chips at the soccer field 30 minutes before practice starts.

Introduction

Usually I'm up on all the new online trendiness........I have an ebay account, a myspace and I google until my heart's content, but for some reason I just didn't have the desire to join the blogging "cult". I guess I just haven't embraced the whole "share your thoughts and feelings with the whole world"thing. However, due to the subtle persistance of my mom, I thought I'd give it a try. I really am full of good ideas and like to share my opinion with whomever will listen to me, even if it is just my 2 year old!

Let's see, a little about me. I am almost 29 and my husband and I have 6 kids who keep us REALLY busy! The range in age between 2 and 14, the three oldest are my stepchildren, but they live with us so I'm pretty much their primary care giver. I run a small Ebay business, I go to school online, I'm taking over as the MOPS coordinator for my MOPS group, team mom for 2 soccer teams, on the PTA at the elementary school and I spend my spare time cooking and cleaning and running my kids all over town! My husband is in the army so we move a lot. We just moved to Alaska about 2 months ago and we are hoping to be here for at least 6 years so our kids can have some stability.

I do a ton of couponing, rebating and I'm just really good at finding a good deal! I love to pass along my finds and tips to my friends and family, as well as the lady standing in line in front of me at the grocery store if she'll listen! People are always telling me that I need to write a book. I honestly don't think I have enough information to write a book, but I think it would be great to start blogging about my finds and deals as well as tips and ideas for raising a large family. There seems to be some blogs and information for large families, but most of the time they are homeschooling families who's children are not involved in a lot of school, extracuricular or sport activities that require practice several nights a week, so their schedules and expectations are not realistic for my family or other families who have very busy schedules.

So I plan to get on here every couple of days, maybe everyday and share "my thoughts and feelings" with the whole world!
